Smooth out tired winter skin with this easy-to-make sugar body scrub featuring rosehip essential oil.

Sugar body scrubs exfoliate skin and slough away dead skin cells, leaving skin feeling rejuvenated. They’re a little luxury that’s great for using on heels, elbows, and anywhere else your skin is feeling a bit rough.

If you love do-it-yourself home projects, then you’re going to love this make-it-yourself rosehip sugar body scrub. You can stir up this fancy-sounding beauty treatment in minutes.

And, it’s super budget-friendly. Sugar body scrubs in stores tend to lean toward the pricy side. When you see the super simple (and inexpensive!) ingredients in this recipe, you’ll wonder why you ever paid for store-bought ones.

This wasn’t the first time I made a sugar body scrub. (I wrote about a coconut and vanilla one here.) But it had been a while. I remembered them while I was trying to think about how I could use up this huge bag of sugar I had bought for holiday baking and had barely touched.

The recipe for this sugar body scrub requires just two main ingredients. Anything else you want to add is just for fun.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 4-5 drops rosehip essential oil (optional)
  • Jar

You’ll be amazed how quickly you can whip up your own sugar body scrub. Here’s how.

Step 1: Combine

Combine the sugar, olive oil and rosehip essential oil in a small jar. You can use any small jar. Mason jars work great.

Step 2: Mix it up

Mix the ingredients together. The mixture should have the consistency of damp sand. If you want your mixture a little drier or a little wetter, add a teaspoon of olive oil or a teaspoon of sugar until you reach your ideal consistency.

Step 3: Enjoy

To use your new sugar body scrub, scoop out a palm full and rub it on legs, arms, heels and elbows in a circular motion. It will leave your skin feeling silky soft right away. Use it in the bath for an indulgent spa-like treat. The warm water releases the scent of the rosehip oil. It’s lovely and relaxing.

Here’s why I chose rosehip essential oil

While you can choose any essential oil you like to add to your sugar body scrub, I picked rosehip essential oil because of its skin-nourishing benefits.

Rosehip oil is high in essential fatty acids and it’s a great hydrator for dry skin, according to Mountain Rose Herbs, a company that offers organic and sustainably sourced medicinal herbs, culinary spices, handcrafted teas, pure essential oils and bulk ingredients.

Rosehip oil is also super gentle, making it ideal for sensitive skin.

It’s easy to mix-and-match to create your own sugar body scrub. Besides using the essential oil of your choice (lavender, vanilla, lemon and mint are good ones), you can also substitute white sugar for brown sugar and olive oil for coconut oil. You could even add honey!

What I love about making your own beauty products like this rosehip sugar body scrub is that there aren’t any chemicals or other unnecessary ingredients. You know exactly what’s going in it, and all of the ingredients are natural.
