Inside: Quick as a bunny, discover how to make a cute bunny garland before Easter. This easy Easter craft takes less than 20 minutes to create.
“I’m late, I’m late, I’m late.”
Easter’s almost here and, like the White Rabbit, I’m late. I’ve had good intentions to make a bunny garland for weeks now.
But luckily for me (and you!), this easy DIY bunny garland is quick. In less than 20 minutes, you’ll transform a pile of craft supplies into a cute bunny garland for Easter decorating.
So, get ready to celebrate spring with this easy DIY bunny garland.
It’s simple to make. A little whimsical. And, it’ll make you happy as a bunny.
A bunny garland isn’t something I would typically make.
I’m usually drawn to more lasting—less seasonal—DIY projects. But omgosh. It’s so darn cute.
What you’ll need to make a bunny garland:
- Scrapbook paper
- Cotton balls
- Twine (or yarn)
- Glue or scrapbook stickers
- Scissors
- X-acto® knife (or box cutter)
6 Steps to Make a Cute-As-a-Bunny Bunny Garland
Bunny hop on over and get ready to create the most adorable garland ever.
Step 1: Create a bunny template
You’ll need a bunny template to use to trace and cut out your bunnies.
My talented grandmother drew one for me.
But if you don’t feel comfortable drawing a bunny template, don’t worry. Google’s got you covered. Just search “bunny template” and tons of options pop up that you can print out.
Choose from floppy-eared bunnies, perky-eared bunnies, baby bunnies, and bunny silhouettes to your heart’s content.
Step 2: Trace bunnies onto paper with a pencil
After you’ve printed and cut out your bunny template, trace six to seven bunnies onto different papers with a pencil.
I used scrapbook paper with spring-like patterns, like florals, light pinks, and mint greens.
But you don’t have to use scrapbook paper.
Other options to make your garland include:
- Butcher paper
- Construction paper
- Felt
- Paper bags
- Wallpaper samples
- Vintage wallpaper
Step 3: Cut out bunnies from paper
Now cut out all the bunnies.
This kind of craft project is perfect to do while watching T.V. Because let’s face it. By the time you get to cutting out the second bunny, it feels less like fun and more like a chore.
So feel free to watch those re-runs of Fixer Upper while you cut.
Step 4: Add cotton ball tails
Now, the cute part.
Plopping the cotton ball tails onto their bums.
I used scrapbook stickers to attach cotton balls to the paper bunnies, but glue would also work. (Probably better.)
After I’d attached several of the cotton balls to my paper bunnies, my sister had a good suggestion. Instead of using the entire cotton ball (which looks a little oversized), pull the cotton balls apart so the tails are smaller. And you can also fluff up the cotton ball to make the tails look more fuzzy and realistic.
Step 5: Cut slits to insert the twine
When I first tried to figure out how to get the bunnies onto the twine, I used a hole punch.
That was a bad idea.
My bunny looked like it had two massive holes in its head. There’s no other way to put it.
Then, I figured out a better way.
Use an X-acto knife (or a box cutter) to cut two slits on either side of the bunny’s head. The slits are large enough to pull the twine through, but not so big that the bunny looks deformed.
Step 6: String up your bunnies
Finally, carefully string your bunnies onto the twine.
I used six bunnies, but you can make as many or as few as you want depending on the length of your bunny garland.
10 Ways to Decorate with a Bunny Garland That Are Cuter Than Peter Rabbit
Now that you made your cute bunny garland, the big question remains. How are you going to decorate with it?
These 10 fun ideas should help you out with your Easter decorating.
1. Dress up a fireplace mantle
String up this whimsical bunny garland along your fireplace. Feel free to add other spring-related decor to complete the look.
2. Drape over a doorway
Give a doorway Easter cheer by hanging up the bunny garland above a busy entryway.
3. Decorate a buffet table
You already know the buffet table will be the life of the Easter party. Dress up the table by hanging the bunny garland along the side of the table. Or, hang it on the wall above the table. It’ll add festivity to the table while guests munch and sample.
4. Use as a table runner
Lay the bunny garland down the middle of your dining room table as a table runner. Show it off even more by layering a burlap cloth or a burlap table runner under the garland.
5. Add whimsy to a headboard
Your bunny garland doesn’t just have to go in common areas, like the living room or the kitchen. Enjoy it anytime by hanging the garland along your bed headboard. It would look especially cute in a little one’s room.
6. Line a banister or stair rail
Like an evergreen garland during Christmas, drape your bunny garland along a banister or stair rail.
7. Hang like streamers
Make multiple bunny garlands (or one long one) and loop them from the ceiling like streamers. Perfect for a spring party or Easter gathering.
8. Greet guests on the front porch
Hang the bunny garland on your front porch to greet guests.
9. Wrap it
Think outside the garland. You don’t have to just hang it up. Wrap the bunny garland around columns on your porch or trees in the backyard. This would make great party decor.
10. Starting line for an Easter egg hunt
Use the bunny garland to keep eager Easter egg hunters at bay before the hunt. Mark off an area by stringing up the bunny garland and then pull it down when the hunt begins.
Don’t be late. Make this delightfully easy bunny garland right now.
