Fall crafts are like pumpkin spice lattes. You can never have too many.

Like that first sip of nutmeg and cinnamony goodness, you know fall has arrived when you crave a new fall craft.

No matter how many wreaths you make or pumpkins you decorate, you can’t control it. Every year, you need to make something new. It’s a sure thing. As predictable as Starbucks putting pumpkin spice lattes on its menu earlier and earlier.

But you know what takes the fun out of fall crafts? Buying craft supplies that cost more than the premade item. How silly.

When I brainstorm fall crafts to make, I try to come up with inexpensive (or even free!) projects. Like this one. Because spending half your paycheck on craft supplies defeats the purpose of DIY.

Look No Further for Pinecone Crafts. This Is the Only Fall Craft Project You Need.

This cozy fall craft has it all. It’s cute. Easy-to-make. And you don’t need to cut coupons to afford the supplies.

I already had all the supplies I needed to make these pinecone jars on hand. Other than the pinecones. (Thank you local park for supplying those.)

Even if you have to buy a few items, they’re all inexpensive. And, you’ll have supplies left over. (If you use up an entire can of spray paint and bottle of super glue on this project, you’re doing something wrong.)

What you’ll need:

If you don’t have mason jars already, use what you can find in your recycle bin. Dig out those pickle jars, olive jars, and salsa containers. Pretty much any glass condiment jar will work great.

3 Steps to Make the Cutest Pinecone Jars Ever

Put found pinecones to good use with this easy fall craft. You can make pretty pinecone jars for your home in one day.

Step 1: Remove lids from jars

You’re going to spray paint the lids, so start by removing them from the jars.If you’re using mason jars, separate the ring from the lid.

I used two pint-size mason jars and an (old!) peanut butter jar lid for this fall craft project. I found the cute vintage peanut butter jar at a flea market for $1.

Step 2: Glue the pinecones to the lids

Dab a small (dime-sized) amount of glue onto the middle of each lid.

Gently set your pinecone on the glue and press firmly. Follow the directions on your glue, but I’d recommend holding the pinecone in place for 15 to 30 seconds.

Then, let them dry. Mine took about 10 minutes to fully dry.

Step 3: Spray paint away

Take your newly attached pinecone jar lids outside and spray paint them.

Tips for spray painting well:

  • Shake the spray paint can. (Newbie me made this mistake so many times. If you don’t shake the paint, it will sputter out in splatters and ruin your project.)
  • Don’t hold the can too close to the project. (About 10-12 inches will do.)
  • Spray in light layers. (Or, the paint will run.)
  • Put the project on a piece of cardboard so you can rotate it without touching it.

Take your time. You won’t be able to cover the whole lid and pinecone on the first coat. Do lots of light coats.

How to Decorate with Pinecone Jars for Fall

Now that you’ve made some of the cutest pinecone crafts ever, how will you use them in your home?

They’re a little whimsical. A little naturey. And just the right amount of “fall.”

There’s no wrong way to decorate with these pretty pinecone-topped jars. But here are a few ideas to get you started.

1. Fill with candy

Get ready to be the candy queen. You can keep these pretty pinecone jars filled with candy from before Halloween to well through December. Simply swap out the candy for the season.

2. Display the  jars on a mantle

Add the jars to a fall-themed display on your fireplace mantle. I like the look of the pinecone jars in a grouping of three. But two jars or one jar flyin’ solo will look good, too. Mix them in with a display of pumpkins, gourds, and other fall items.

3. Swap out ordinary jars

Wherever you have jars in your home right now, swap them out for these pinecone jars. (You can put back the everyday jars back after fall ends.)

Places to use the jars in your home:

  • Storing cotton balls and q-tips in the bathroom
  • Corralling pantry staples in the kitchen
  • Holding office supplies
  • Storing candy or baked treats

4. Create a quick table display

Use the jars on your dining room or kitchen table as a fall centerpiece. Lay a piece of burlap as a table runner and then place the pinecone jars in the middle. Scatter more pinecones along the runner and you have a quick and easy centerpiece.

5. Place on a shelf

Add a row of pinecone jars on a shelf in your living room, dining room, or kitchen. The beauty of these jars is that they easily go with the rest of your home décor.

6. Get creative

Have fun with your pinecone jars. You don’t have to use only one pinecone. I made a grouping of three pinecones on top of a larger jar’s lid.

While these pinecone jars are purely for fun (don’t go grabbing the pinecone like a handle), I love how they turned out. They’re practical-meets-decorative.
